About the Red Line
The Red Line – the first line in the Tel Aviv LRT network The Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area LRT Red Line will be the first in the planned network of light rail lines in the area. The rail line is expected to start running in October 2021, operated by Tevel after it has won the 2017 bid.
15 miles, 34 stations
The line is 15 miles long, from the Petah Tikva Central Station all the way to Bat Yam, going through Bnei Brak, Ramat Gan and Tel Aviv-Yafo.
7.5 miles of the railway track is laid underground from the Petah Tikva (Em Hamoshavot) station all the way to Alenby station in Tel Aviv.
At street level, the railway will have its own unique track and will have priority at intersections, to allow fast a reliable service for the LRT passengers.
The track will include 34 stations in five cities, with 90 railcars manufactured by CRRC traveling on it.
The rail line was designed to address the increasing traffic congestions in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area. It was therefore designed, among other things, with the intent to optimally interface with the other active mass transit means.
The Red Line will connect with the Tel Aviv Hashalom and Savidor railway stations and enable to continue traveling between cities by Israel Railway lines. Additionally, bus lines will be planned as feeders for the Red Line.
70 million people are expected to use the LRT every 3 to 6 minutes, according to peak hours. Tevel was selected through a bidding process to operate the entire light rail network, including operations readiness, recruiting personnel, training and teaching all road users and passengers, and running the entire system.
